Kitty And Pumpkin
Open a new transparent
image 300x400/16 million colors.
Add a new layer and name
it Leaves. Go to Selections/Load from
Disk and load the kittyleaves.sel
file. Flood fill with a dark green.
I used #2F8C58.
Go to Selections/Float and apply a cutout effect
using these settings:
Apply another cutout,
but change your horizontal and vertical to
-2 and the black to color
#01CD01 Deselect your image.
Add another layer and
name it stem. Go to Selections/Load From Disk
and load the kittystem.sel
file. Flood fill with a light brown color. I
used #CEBB97 Go
to Selections/Float and apply a cutout effect with
the same settings as
in the diagram above. Apply a second cutout, but
change only our H &
V to -2 (don't change the color to green this time)
Deselect and add a new
layer, naming this one pumpkin. Go to
Selections/Load From
Disk and load the kittypumpkin.sel file. Go
to Selections/Modify/Expand
and type in 4. Flood fill your pumpkin with
the orange color of your
choice. I used #CE8601. Go to Selection/
Float and apply the same
cutout effect as in the diagram above, then
change your H & V
to -2 as we did with the stem. Deselect.
Add yet another layer,
naming this one kitty. Go to Selections/Load From
Disk and load the kitty.sel
file. Flood fill with black. Go to Selections/Float
and add a cutout effect
with the same settings as above, only change your
black to white.
We'll get back to our kitty in a bit to add his face 'n stuff.
Now let's add some pizzazz
to our graphic. I have included a face for
the pumpkin with the
.sel zip file. If you don't feel inclined to hand-
draw your pumpkin's face,
you may now, with your pumpkin layer
active, add a new layer
and name it face. Open the jackoface.psp
file and copy and paste
it as a new selection onto your face layer.
I applied a little drop
shadow to my face using the settings we used in
the above capture, but
it's entirely up to you. Now take your brush
tool, set at Size 2 and
draw some lines down your pumpkin for texture.
I used black for my line
color. Now do the same for the stem of your
pumpkin. I also
added a couple of "veins" on my leaves.
Now for our kitty!
We're going to do one little vector, and it's an
easy one, so don't fret!
Grab your Preset shapes tool, set to Ellipse.
You need to have your
fore and background colors set to white, and
both antialias
and vector should be checked. Make sure your layer
named kitty is active
and add a new layer, naming it kitty face.
Draw a small ellipse
on your kitty's face, then click on your node edit
tool. Right click
on your eye and click on the bottom node.
Right click on the node
and choose Node Type/Symmetric.
Push the botton node
up a bit till it is flatter along the bottom and rounded
at the top still.
I pushed mine in a bit at both sides too, till I got it to
look the way I wanted.
Then take your magic wand tool and click on
your eye. Go to
Image/Rotate and rotate your eye 10 degrees to the right.
Then Copy/Paste it as
a new selection, so you have two and line them
up. I then took
my preset shapes tool again, turned off antialias and
vector and changed my
colors to #40FF40. I then drew a small circle
of the green within the
white. See image below for the shapes I used.
I then used my paintbrush
to paint a dot of black inside the green for
the pupils. Then
again with your paintbrush, make a small nose and
mouth with grey.
I used #C0C0C0 Then add a little tongue in a nice
bright red color, and
draw his mouth out from the tongue the way
mine is in the finished
pic. And we're all done! You may now tube
your image or resize
it and save as a transparent .gif.
I hope this tut was easy
to follow, and that you enjoyed it!
