You must have a "working" knowledge
of PSP and plugin filters.
I have written this tutorial
in PSP 7.02 but other versions will also work with
minor adjustments.
You need the Dream Suite
filter (it's free) which can be downloaded Here
This filter is an .exe file and
will automatically install into your
C/:Program Files/JascSoftware/PaintShopPro/Plugins
folder...or it
did on my computer. If
not, try your Program Files folder, as I noticed
earlier today, that it's in both
places on my machine! The folder
within your plugins will
be called DreamSuite Bonus. This folder will contain the
executable file for Dream Suite.
Since this filter does not work like other PSP
plugins, but rather is
"stand alone", I found it easiest to open the folder,
right click on the .exe
file and Click Create A Shortcut. Then, drag the
shortcut onto your desktop.
I then pulled it down onto my Quick Launch tool bar for
easy access. (see screenshot
below)
The reason I am using the program
as a stand alone is because it won't work for me in PSP
and I have no idea why.
However, one of my testers informed me that she uses it in PSP,
so you can try following the
procedures to install to your plugins folder and point PSP to
the filter using the File>Preferences>File
Locations>Plugin Filters tab.
The first time you go to use it,
you will be prompted to register it. All that's
required is to fill out your
email address and a registration code will be sent to
you immediately. Simply
type in your code and you're good to go!
There are no selections or other
pics to save to folders with this tutorial
Let's get
started, and remember....SAVE OFTEN!!
Step 1:
Choose a favorite tube file that you would like to make into a seamless
background.
Alternately you may use any favorite
.gif file. I have not tried this with .jpeg images.
Step 2:
Assuming you are using a tube for your image, open it in PSP and resize
it to around
192x147. This is just a
general guide. My original tube was 385x295. I resized it by
50%
to come up with the 192x147,
after cropping off any "extra" around the tube. As you'll
be using your own image, obviously
everyone's will be a bit different in size. Note: A more square
image works better than a "tall"
image. Convert your tube to a transparent .gif image.
Step 3:
Click on the Dreamy Suite icon on your tool bar to open the program.
Open your gif image in Dreamy
by going to File>Open and choosing your file.
Step 4:
Go to Special Effects. Mouse across till you get to Select Preset
as shown
below and click the Select Preset
tab to open them.
Step 5:
Once
the presets open, Choose the first one named Blue Dream .iqp
and use the settings shown below.
Then go to File/Save and name your
filtered file. The files
save in bitmap (.bmp) format in this program.

Here is a before and after shot
of the tube I used. You may feel free to play around with
the different presets, rather
than using the BlueDream. They all give a different effect.

Step 6:
Open a blank image in PSP 500x500. Using your color picker,
choose a color from the background
part of your filtered (.bmp) image and
floodfill the 500x500 canvas.
(I used #D2D2E1.) Copy and paste your filtered
image into the blank canvas as
a new layer. As you can see, my image blends
nicely into this color. (I also
used the same color to make a blank tile for this page)
I've resized the image below
considerably from the 500x500, but wanted to give
you an idea of what yours should
look like.
Step 7:
Do not merge your 2 layers. Make sure you're on the filtered image
layer
and not the background layer.Go
to Selections/Select All >Selections/Float>
Selections/Convert to Seamless
Pattern. And you're done!
The possibilites are endless
with this method, as you can use just about
any image you like. I hope
you enjoyed my first tutorial.
If you have any problems, please
don't hesitate to email me.
