Making brush tips for PSP is fun and easy! This tutorial was written
using PSP 7.02. Since I don't have 7.04 or previous versions,
I'm not
sure if the procedure is the same, although most of the time it's merely
a matter of tools being in a different place, so you can experiment
if
you have a different version. The computer above was created
as
a brush using the following steps.
Step 1
Choose an image (tubes work best, I've found, unless you want to
spend hours removing the background from images) Open your image
in PSP and go to Selections>Select All>Float to select your graphic.
Step 2
Choose your paintbrush tool
and choose Custom brushes as shown below.
and click on the Create button. You will notice I have
my image selected to the
left of the second screen cap window. When you click create,
PSP just chooses
any brush in your folder to display, so you only need to click create
once, as the
image you have selected to create a brush is not the one displayed.
It will,
however, save the image you have selected and not the one displayed.
( confused yet!?
)
Okay, let's move on, and you'll see what I mean.

Step 3
Minimize your PSP window and go to your Brushes folder. You can
find it by going to My Computer > C\: > Program Files > PSP > Brushes
(depending on your computer's interface). Open your Brushes folder
and
look for a file named UBrush.jbr. This is the brush tip
you have just created.
Immediately rename your file. What I did, was name all the ones
I created
beginning with ja (for Jade), so I would know which were mine when
it came
time to find them again. For example, the tube above in the second
capture I
created is babys breath. I went to the folder and renamed it
"jababysbreath".
At the same time as I renamed each one, I right-clicked on it andmade
a zip file of it.
See image below.
Step 4
At this point, when you are all finished making your brushes, create
a
folder on your Desktop and name it My Brushes. Drag, or cut and
paste all the
.jbr (brush) files and their corresponding zip files to your new folder
so you
have them all in one spot. To display them on yourweb page, simply
open
each brush file in PSP, and save it as a transparent .gif in your folder.
The
.gif files are what you will display on your page, linked, of course
to it's
corresponding ZIP file. And that's it!
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and found it easy to understand.
